2014 Greensboro Downtown Greenway Cornerstone

  • Chandler Concrete Inc sold its concrete manufacturing plant at 1420 Mill Street and signed restrictive covenant agreeing to cease use of the railroad track that runs adjacent to the property.  Plans begin moving forward for design of Greenway along rail line on Phase 4.
  • Awaiting construction authorization from NCDOT to get northern section out to bid.  Expect construction to being in second quarter of 2015.
  • Planning begun for the Innovation Cornerstone to be located at the corner of Lindsay and Murrow Blvd.
  • Public meetings held on September 30th to get public input on the southern section of the Downtown Greenway along Bragg Street between Eugene and MLK Drive. Click here for proposed plans.
  • The 5th Annual Run 4 the Downtown Greenway was held on September 6 with more than 375 runners/walkers, 600 party participants, and more than $13,000 raised for the Downtown Greenway Maintenance Endowment Fund. Click here to see photos from the run.
  • Meeting Place was installed on the Tradition Cornerstone site in December 2013; site furnishings (water fountain and solar-powered trash receptacle) installed in February. Entire site completed in April 2014. Ribbon Cutting to officially open the site was on May 10, 2014.
  • Easement and right of way acquisition continues for the northern section.  This section runs from Fisher and Greene Streets west to North Eugene and then south along Eugene and Smith. Construction expected to begin by the end of the year.
  • Design work continues on Murrow Boulevard and on the southern section from Bragg Street between Elm and Arlington.
